I began One Hundred in 2024, as an exercise in learning a new medium (acrylic gouache) and from a desire to work smaller and faster so I could move through ideas more quickly and indulge in any visual whim. A side project that I started for fun, has grown into a body of work that now comprises fifty images, and my intent is to reach one hundred. The paintings are tiny, 3 x 3 inches, so the viewer has to get up close with the work, while at the same time, being in the presence of so many together becomes an immersive experience. As a large group, in the square format of the Instagram grid, this work acts as the “anti-scroll” so to speak, a comment on the value of human connection in real life, with loved ones, nature, and small moments in life.
